This blog began as a daily painting blog but as life changes, so does a blog. It has become a journal of a writer who paints and enthusiastically works outdoors to maintain fitness.

Paintings 2023

Marigolds delight with their bold colors and signature fragrance. Some people, and some pests, detest that aroma and are repelled by it. Others, including me, love the pungent scent.
From yellow to deep gold, a frill of five or six petals to full bushy tuffets, marigolds are cheerful accents in the garden.
Folklore traditions say marigolds protect from evil and bring good luck.

Blue jays are scrappy birds, always insistent on getting their piece of the pie, sometimes losing the bits of food in the name of winning. If being beautifully blue gives a bird an edge, then this one has it.
In Indigenous folklore jays compete with ravens as selfish tricksters. Seeing one is also a good omen bringing good luck and happiness.

Grapes, on the vine into the night, are visited by creatures moving around in the moonlight. So, too, are the creatures who consume the grapes in other forms.

Sunflowers captured the attention of everyone as the symbolic flower of the people of Ukraine and their war defense.  Thousands of years ago, the Aztecs saw the sunflower as a symbol and metaphor for war.

Falling Star

Falling Star is a crisp delicious South American wine. Our trip to Peru and Bolivia this last spring opened my eyes to the richness of this region's delicacies. 18" x 24" acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas.

January 29 Lunacy

lunacy \'lu-ne-se\n pl -cies [lunatic] (1541) 1 a:INSANITY b: intermittent insanity once believed to be related to phases of the moon 2: wild foolishness: extravagant folly 3: a foolish act

In honor of the nearly full moon, I painted the negative image of last night's painting, or the positive of the real thing. And in a moment of lunacy, I pressed my index finger tips into the paint in a halo around the moon.

This will be the painting, that when found at a garage sale in 2095, someone will be excited because they knew a Leasman painting existed that had the finger prints of the artist. It was created during that challenge back in twenty-ten, when the artist painted one painting every day of the whole year. Remember? And that painting has been lost for decades and here it's surfaced and is worth a bejillion dollars!

On sale now, for only $290.
