This blog began as a daily painting blog but as life changes, so does a blog. It has become a journal of a writer who paints and enthusiastically works outdoors to maintain fitness.

March 24 You've got to give a little...

You've got to give a little, take a little,
And let your poor heart break a little.
That's the story of, that's the glory of love.

You've got to laugh a little, cry a little,
Until the clouds roll by a little.
That's the story of, that's the glory of love.

Hmmm....so why does that old song come rolling into my thoughts? Hard to say. Today was a good day of laughter, no tears, but a fair amount of give and take with the first pot luck of spring at work this noon. The Five Wings Arts Council (that's us) shares a communal space between offices with female eye doctors and their staff so we had a pot luck get aquainted lunch in the shared space. Great fun and there's a plan afoot to do it monthly.

I spent a couple of hours photographing a Staple's area artist's watercolors and uploading them to the mn.artists website. That was an enjoyable process, too.

Now it's past dark and no one has put the chickens in for the night. Savannah doesn't want to go out alone, so I must finish up and venture out with her. She wants to look for Orion, the constellation, too and I won't deny a 14 year-old that.

She tells me the lyrics are from "Beaches." There were messages and mentions today of southern California, beaches of Lake Michigan, people coming back from Mexico, going to Mexico....maybe my subconscious mind processed it and came up with that connection.

February 9 Flight in Pink

Five Wings Arts Council director Mark and I were discussing the color scheme for a website. We had chosen a jump off the monitor combo and then realized that it might be better to choose more neutral colors since colors schemes go in and out of style. I made the comment that pink won't go with our color scheme but artworks, which we will highlight on the site, rarely are in pink. That must have been the stimulus for my pink painting today. That and the flying birds I saw on my way to Staples this morning. As they flew away from me they looked just like the white ones on this painting.

January 30 Turkish Coffee

Let's celebrate almost one month of daily paintings and have a little cup of Turkish coffee. Most everyone knows how much I like coffee. I have a variety of coffee "makers" from the daily Proctor Silex to a French press, ceramic tea pot type coffee pot and the Turkish set. It's a collection. I've even roasted green coffee beans and though it was a fun experiment, I generally leave the roasting to the experts.

I work with Mark Turner at the Five Wings Arts Council. Mark likes coffee dark and strong. So do I. He surprised me when he said that one of the best cups of coffee in the area can be had at Burger King. It surprised me because I'd made the same discovery some years ago.
